SUMMARY:
The graduate program at Duquesne University’s School of Education teaches their students how to use the available classroom technologies to teach. The curriculum for the Program in Instructional Technology integrates the tools that most schools provide in their own computer labs and classrooms. This school believes that if the students use technology to learn, teachers should use the same technology to teach. Teachers need to be able to utilize the Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Assess), Internet Explorer and Netscape Communicator. Help the future teachers these tools to develop text, visual, and Web-based materials for the classroom, and leave the more compel and costly packages to multimedia designers and commercial artists. Talked about how to make your presentation different and eye catching.
PERSONAL REACTION:
I thought this article was rather interesting because I think the Microsoft Office suite; Internet Explorer and Netscape Communicator are really under-used. I used the Microsoft Office suite so much while I was doing my student teaching. Some of the other software that I was using was stuff that I have never heard of and I knew how to use it way before some of the teachers. While I was my student teaching I also got to learn with the teachers how to use a new program, Win School. It was not hard to learn at all but everybody including myself would like to spend more time to on the program before we are actually start using the program. The article mentioned some things that was relating to what we are doing now in our own class. Teachers should put their lessons on the Internet that way students could learn on their own pace. The lessons have assessment as it went along the unit. PowerPoint was even suggested to make some presentations for class. By doing this, student would actually see the teacher’s notes and hear the lecture. Teachers are even able to put pictures, movies and audio files on the presentation so that teachers do not have to worry about where to find the file. Just click on the link and let it be. I spent four hours putting a PowerPoint presentation on the Periodic Table and I am not a Chemistry teacher. I got all my information of the web. I used the program Paint (learned how to use this program really well while dating an Art major) and edited the table to spiff-up the presentation. The presentation may take a while to do but once you have it, you have for life. Just take the time to learn and one will succeed. Learning always takes time but once you have it down pack you have it for life.
